SINOPSE
Ester Krumbachová – an artist, screenwriter, director, one of the most important names of the Czech New Wave. She was in the centre of the artistic life in Prague in the sixties. The director Věra Chytilová talks to those who knew Ester Krumbachová, cooperated with her, were her friends, loved her, and puts together a picture of an inspiring person. She starts a search which should end with the answer to the question: Who was Ester?

Věra Chytilová (1929-2014) was the first woman to study film directing at FAMU, the Film Academy in Prague, and went on to become an important member of the 1960s Czech New Wave. As a female film director, she introduced new approaches into Czechoslovak cinema, quite unusually for the times, giving voice to the views and experiences of women.
